Postpartum update: 3.5 months

I lost 8lbs in the last 5 weeks - without any exercise. This is a significant amount of weight loss for someone my size.

I am currently 3.5 months postpartum and I am exclusively breastfeeding. I am sure a huge part of the weight loss is likely due to breastfeeding - but I know my diet also plays a huge role in it as well. 

I decided to give up exercise during this quarantine life because I realized I can't do it all. 

I can't breastfeed every 3 hours AND cook fresh meals AND do endless amount of laundry AND entertain my toddler AND  read medical journals AND grow my blog AND clean the house AND collect PPE donations for the urgent care and emergency department AND maintain friendships AND love my husband. 

It was too much. I was feeling overwhelmed all the time. I wasn't getting enough sleep. 

I had a hard time motivating myself to exercise and when I finally got a chance to do it, my kids were out of control and  screaming. 

I broke down. 

I knew I had to give up something. 

I chose to spend more time with my babies and less time worrying about my defined waist line. 

Instead of focusing on building muscle, I am focusing on maintaining muscle mass and shedding fat by staying in a caloric deficit. I'm using this time to shift my focus on my nutrition and my mental health. 

Without exercise, I know my progress may be slower but it is, nonetheless, still progress. 

This is where I am now. 

My six pack abs will have to wait. I'm sure my kids won't even notice if mama has a six pack of abs or a 20 pack of rolls. But I sure as hell know they will notice if mama is present and happy around them.
