Hello World!

Hi, I'm Sami Ngo. I'm a board certified physician assistant, wife, mama, foodie and  CrossFitter. And although I'm a millennial, I'm more of a sophisticated, got-my-shit together kind of millennial. I guess you could say I'm an old-school millennial.

I was born in Vietnam by Chinese working-class parents and raised in Las Vegas, where I currently reside with my family. I fell in love with medicine at the ripe old age of ten and bounced around from lab tech to pharmacy tech and Ultrasound tech until finally figuring out what I wanted to be when I grew up. Moving across the country for a Physician Assistant graduate program was one of the toughest times in my life but literally one of the best decisions I've ever made (by accident, but more on that later). It was there, living on my own for the first time, that I learned how to cook, clean and entertain myself, all while living on a very tight grad student budget.

Now that I'm gainfully employed, and can splurge on buying the good toilet paper, I spend a lot of my free time eating and traveling or as my husband says, traveling to eat! My husband and I actually met in a 2-star hostel in Cartagena, Colombia, and bonded over our shared love for street food. Our courtship involved a lot of passport stamps as he lived in Australia at the time, although he's originally from Russia, and I had returned to Connecticut to start my first PA job. A year later at our wedding in Bali, we made sure to incorporate a traditional Bali feast, including a roasted pig, to celebrate the local culture. After settling in to San Francisco for our honeymoon years we decided to move back to Las Vegas to be closer to my parents after we learned I was pregnant.

Now I'm a proud mama to the cutest 18-month-old boy who is learning English, as well as Russian and Cantonese, as my husband and I try our best to expose him to our different cultures. From borscht and vegemite to Hainanese Chicken, this is what happens when a Chinese-American girl meets a Russian-Australian boy.

In this blog I'll be talking about travel, food and fitness as seen through the unique lens of a medical provider. I'll be sharing travel secrets, recipes, medical news and ways to keep you and your family safe, happy and healthy. I'm excited to see where this takes us and I look forward to letting you in on all the things Sami Knows.
